American film censors, who called Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) create a rating system in classifying films that circulate in their country. With this system, the community is expected to assess whether a film worthy to be watched by them / their families, or not.
Some things became the basis of consideration of this rating, namely:
style of language used by the actors-actresses, the use of illegal drugs in the story, elements of violence and the level of sadism, and whether this film shows the bloody scene.
Starting from 2007, plus 1 more basic considerations, namely the presence or absence of smoking scenes.

The following classification system is based MPAA rating:
1. G - General audiences
Can be witnessed by all people of all ages, because it does not contain elements of a scene with no clothes, no element of sex and drugs. Violence is presented with a very minimalist, without the use of offensive language style. Usually given to the children films and several documentary films
2. PG - Parental Guidance Suggested
Can be witnessed by all people of all ages, but recommended for children to be accompanied by a parent. The cause is that the film may contain elements of underwear scenes, words that are not appropriate, mild violence or drug, although presented in a minimalist. Usually the children's film that did not make the G rating, will enter the rating of this type.
3. PG-13 - Parents strongly cautioned
Can be witnessed by all people of all ages, but for children under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by a parent. The reason is the film contains a scene with no clothes on, though not explicit, harsh words, showing little scenes of bloody, and illegal drugs. Usually the winning films that want to reap as much revenue, will enter the rating of this type. Example: Titanic
4. R - Restricted
Can be witnessed by all people of all ages, but for children under 17 years are required to be accompanied by a parent. The reason is the film contains a scene with no clothes, rude or vulgar speech, displays of violence and use of illegal drugs are dominant throughout the film. Not many films of this type that can rule the box office ladder, because of the limited audience that can watch it. Example: The Passion of The Christ
5. NC-17 - No Children 17 or Under Admitted
Can only be witnessed by an audience aged over 17 years, without exception!

MPAA was founded in 1966, driven by community unrest will be the content of films such as Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock and the use of the word f *** in movie Ulysses and I'll Never Forget What's'isname .
Frankly, the MPAA is less favored among indie filmmakers because it is considered discriminatory
